If your AC suddenly breaks down, you might feel like you’re melting in Ohio’s heat. Hopefully, you’ve already called Loveland Heating & Air, as we offer 24-hour emergency services year-round. Our dedicated NATE-certified technicians are available 365 days a year to provide top-notch customer service, especially when you need it most! We’ll get to you as soon as we can, but while you’re waiting for your technician to arrive, you might be uncomfortable and looking for ways to keep you and your family cool.
While you wait for our technicians, here are some handy tips to stay cool:
- Set your ceiling fans to spin counterclockwise
- Close your blinds and drapes
- Limit opening exterior doors
- Open windows at night
- Avoid using heat-inducing appliances
- Try a DIY temporary AC
Here’s how you can Stay Cool in the meantime:
- Set Your Ceiling Fans to Counter-clockwise: Most ceiling fans usually spin clockwise, pushing air down to create a cool breeze when your AC is on. But since your AC is out, try switching your fans counterclockwise. This pulls up the cooler air and spreads it around, making the room more comfortable without the AC. Not sure where the switch is? You can typically find it located on the base of your ceiling fan.
- Close Your Blinds and Drapes: Doing this will help to exclude sunlight and keep it out of your home. So, be sure to close all your blinds, drapes, and any sort of window treatments. Remember to close all windows too; a cross-breeze in the daytime does little to keep the warm air out.
- Limit Opening Exterior Doors: If you can, try to keep the front, back, basement and garage doors closed as much as possible to minimize warm air from coming in. You don’t want to lose the cool air you have inside, and you definitely don’t want that unwanted warm air sneaking in.
- Open Windows at Night: The evening dip in temperatures can cool your home. So, go ahead and open your windows in the evening to help cool things down. Just remember to close them again in the morning.
- Avoid Heat-inducing Appliances: Just a heads-up: using appliances like the stove, dryer, and dishwasher will only make your home hotter. So, try to avoid them if you can while waiting for your AC to get fixed!
- Try a DIY Temporary AC: This last tip is definitely a bit “creative.” But when creativity meets innovation, that’s when things happen. You can actually make your own makeshift AC by putting a big bowl of ice in front of an electric fan. The fan will blow air over the ice, cooling it down as it passes. Just sit in front of this cool setup and relax while we work on getting your AC back up and running!
