As a homeowner, maintaining your property and ensuring it remains up to code at all times is one of your most important responsibilities. Most homeowners don’t think about this when purchasing a home because of the excitement. Like most investments in life, homes require maintenance and upkeep as years pass to provide maximum comfort, safety, and security. The longer you live in your home, the more you have to think about all the upkeep inside. Different seasons will require you to take care of your house differently. Especially in the wintertime, this is why Loveland Heating & Air examined a few things you should do to get ready for the winter months. Below we have created a few tips to help you and your family.
- Check Your Pipes- Making sure your pipes are ready to take on the winter weather is very important. First, check out your valves and other connections for corrosion. If your pipes show signs of rust or decay, you know that is an excellent reason to give us a phone call.
- Check Your Fireplace-Your fireplace looks good inside your home; however, it can also be dangerous if you’re not careful. Your kids’ toys could get stuck in your fireplace, and you didn’t see it until it was too late. Therefore be sure to check regularly for debris to keep safe in your home.
- Check Your Roof- Check to see if you see any cracks on either side of your roof. Also, look for any exposed nails. In addition, if you notice exposed nails in your roof’s shingles or even in the base of your roof, this could mean parts of your roof need to be replaced.
- Protect Windows From Heat Loss- Check for any cracks. If you feel any draft in your windows, look all around the edge of the window for small cracks that could be letting cold air in. If you feel any cold air coming through, you can use thick curtains during the winter months.
Once you have started to brainstorm the idea of possibly having to invest in your home in years to come, you’ll understand that helpful lists and tips like these will save you tons of cost in the near future. So keep your home up to code and maybe even give each family member in the household a responsibility each year so that you can keep up.
